Cherishing the word in a world of chaos

I absolutely love this app on my phone called the “YouVersion” bible, especially on days like yesterday when I was on my on my third 12 hr shift in a row. When you work 12 hr shifts, which ends up being more like 13 hours, and get home around 8pm there’s about enough time to make dinner, crawl into bed, and maybe read a book or watch a TV show. 1 hr. That’s all the free time you get for the entire day, and after three days with only 3 hrs of free time you are pretty wiped out. And although sometimes I’ve got out my bible and journal at the end of a long day, sometimes you need some “you” time, and that’s totally ok too.

My favorite verse of the day this week on “YouVersion” was from 1 Timothy 1:15, “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of who I am foremost.” So on the crazy busy days where I roll out of bed with barley enough time to throw my hair up into a bun and run out the door I love the verse of the day. I can read it on the go and reflect on it’s relevance on my way to work. It’s a comfort to start my day out with Jesus and it truly does transform your day.

If you have a day off, I love getting out my journal and taking time to reflect and praise God for everything he has been doing in my life. Your days off are a great time to dig deeper.

If your not techy and would rather have some solid ink and paper, I’ve loved reading devotions or starting off by reading a psalm a day. Just find a way to cherish the word in your daily life, even if you only have 5 minutes to give.
